The Gal occurrence is located on a ridge south of the Quinsam River and northwest of the lower Iron River. The area has been explored in conjunction with the nearby Iron River (MINFILE 092F 076) developed prospect.

The area is underlain by massive and amygdaloidal basalt of the Upper Triassic Karmutsen Formation and overlain by limestone of the Upper Triassic Quatsino Formation, both of the Vancouver Group. These are intruded by quartz diorite of the Early to Middle Jurassic Island Plutonic Suite. Overlying these rocks are sandstone, conglomerate, shale and coal of the Upper Cretaceous Comox Formation (Nanaimo Group).

Locally, magnetite occurs as disseminated grains, fracture coatings and local masses, which have replaced volcanic fragments. Pyrite and chalcopyrite mineralization occurs principally as fillings of vesicles associated with calcite. In 2001, rock sampling yielded values up to 2.61 per cent copper and 8.71 per cent iron (Assessment Report 30123).

In 2008, Crazy Horse Resources, on the behalf of Madman Mining Company, completed an airborne magnetic/electromagnetic survey on the area as the Mag claims. The area was originally prospected and sampled in 2001 and is located in a cluster of high airborne magnetic anomalies identified during 2007.
